A perfect Whale Watch

On Monday I had the opportunity to go on a whale watch. It was a perfect day for such a thing. Warm and sunny, bright and clear. I have actually never been out to sea and I felt alittle uncomfortable. The trip out to where the whales were gathered took about an hour. I wasn't sure if we would even see a whale. Finally the boat slowed and we arrived at this famous whale watching spot. It seemed like alot of minutes went by, then I heard an excited commotion from the front of the boat. There were whales!! Over 8 in this pod. Later we would see more, almost 20 altogether. These whales are breathtaking, to say the least. The tour guide spoke about what is known and unknown about them. I was mesmerized, present and in awe.

I was amazed to hear that all male whales have their own songs, that they take all year composing and then use to attract females. They even go so far as to steal other songs!!

They are sweet and wonderful, gentle giants of the deep. The whales that we saw that day were all Humpbacks.

What a great day! What a perfect day!
